World of Peace - Peace Monument

The second of the two Peace Monuments, ‘World of Peace’ was unveiled on September 27th 2007 in Kompong Thom province where it is permanently displayed in a public park. The monument was designed by SOPHON Samkhan and created by Cambodian artists CHOUP Sopheak, KHEM Sambo, TAN Vanno, YEN Entareak, VONG Daravy and SOPHON Samkhan. The monument is 5.5m in height and was made with approximately 1000 small arms.

The weapons used to make this monument were surrendered by the residents of Kompong Thom province and were later destroyed in public ‘Flames of Peace’ ceremonies in the province. The handover of the monument was preceded by a “Peace Declaration’ to mark the completion of JSAC support for weapons collection activities. The declaration was announced by the District Governors, who affirmed their responsibilities in maintaining peaceful, safe, and weapon-free communities. The monument is a symbol of the commitment and hopes of the Cambodian people, as well as the extraordinary creativity and talents of the Cambodia artists.
